Some states already use ranked choice voting, because each state gets to decide how to run their own elections. Alaska does, for example. I’m honestly not sure what happens if we abolish the electoral college and just count votes directly. If some states use ranked choice and some don’t, how do we count those votes fairly? Would the federal government have to take over presidential elections from the states? Would that require a constitutional amendment? Given what’s going on with the federal government right now, is that a power we would want them to have?

Welcome to the beginning of understanding why so much of our society is dysfunctional.

No single candidate can. You need a controlling majority in both houses of the legislature to get anything significant done.

Same. He played a nerdy kid that spent more time interacting with the adults around him than other kids, even if they didn’t always take him seriously. I identified with that a lot. And it never hurt that Wil is only a year or so older than me in real life, and had a lot of the same interests. I grew up seeing him as both a peer and a role-model.

Currently, if you haven’t been told there’s a Frame with your name on it (reservation list), then there’s no definite timeline for getting one. I don’t think that means they will never arrive. It just means they haven’t decided how best to balance supply and demand yet.

I didn’t want to speculate out loud, but yeah I was wondering. I also live in a state that allows assisted dying. If the writing was on the wall and I knew I was about to start losing my faculties, I might choose that path to spare my loved ones having to watch me die one little piece at a time.

He was a terrific Gurney Halleck in Lynch’s Dune.
And honestly, from everything I’ve heard about the man, he was just an all-around lovely person. Caring and supportive of anyone who had the good fortune to know him.

After Rockstar brass suggested earlier this month that they’d be open to letting workers have a union if they really wanted one, workers and the company have hashed out a voting period.
This sentence confuses me. Are the rules different in the UK? Can the company choose to veto a union? In the US, if enough workers sign a public statement saying they support a union, the company can choose to voluntarily recognize the union without a vote. The vote only happens if the company chooses to oppose it (which they usually do here).

They are fairly transparent on their product
I would certainly hope so!

That would not be an accurate headline, since A) it’s an appeals court with multiple judges, and B) they only ruled that it would be inappropriate for them to step in before the lower court has had the chance to consider the case.

I would have thought that, as successful, powerful lawyers, more of those firms would be smart enough to realize that the executive orders targeting them would be immediately ruled unconstitutional in court.
Besides, giving a bully what he wants doesn’t make him your friend. He’ll take it and proceed to fuck your shit up regardless. Then he’ll come back for more.

I would argue that Ticketmaster prefers it this way. Ever since they restricted resales to the marketplace they control, they’re basically double-dipping on every ticket the bots snap up.

That makes sense. I’m pretty sure I bought it as soon as it was available for purchase. It might have been the one and only time I pre-ordered a game. I definitely remember doing the pre-download a while before it was officially released and available to play.

Torchlight 2 was way better. I actually have far more time playing that than any Diablo game.

As I recall, you couldn’t get hl2 in stores when it first released. It was the vehicle that got people onto steam. It was a few years before they opened the platform up to other publishers.

Okay, mate, we’ve decided to give in:

I’ve been trying to move my retirement accounts into funds that are better insulated from an AI bubble pop, but it’s challenging. I mainly moved into funds based on international stocks and low- to mid-cap stocks. The high-cap stock funds are almost entirely AI-fueled companies right now. They’re making crazy returns, but I just don’t trust them.
Uh… about 1600 people were charged and over 1200 were convicted of crimes related to the Jan 6 insurrection.
Trump pardoned them all on his first day in office. With a Republican-controlled congress that wasn’t inclined to do anything to stop him. But saying nothing happened is a ridiculous over-simplification.
