A priceless pre-second world war globe coveted by the US defence secretary Pete Hegseth for his office in the Pentagon was damaged by his staff in a botched attempt to relocate it, army officials have admitted.

What’s the word for when metaphors become reality?
MAGA
“priceless and historic” …is it? Like I get how some things can be but this is a globe. This isnt some relic or even an art piece
“relic” is open to interpretation. this was a near century old antique with provenance that no other item can claim. the craftsmanship, however, is not up for discussion. from that perspective, it was in fact an art piece that was appreciated by its craftsman, its original owner, and everyone who looked at it for the last 80 years.
“Relic” is unarguably applicable:
- a surviving memorial of something past.
- an object having interest by reason of its age or its association with the past.

Priceless, absolutely. Historic, certainly. While the thing itself is not all that significant, this entire debacle is symbolic of the whole administration.
Look, I’m the last person to judge them breaking something. I am clumsy and careless and break shit all the time.
But it’s just so perfectly emblematic of Republicans. They look at this old globe of the world how it was 80 years ago and think it’s so nice and they should have it for themselves… and then they break it out of carelessness.
There’s actually a department in charge of moving historical stuff like this, precisely so it doesn’t get broken, but no, he just sent his thugs over to grab it …
Which is a further metaphor for how Republicans handle… basically everything.
