Stanley Tweedle is a god
A warrior and a gent.
We are not fit to suck his feet
Or dine on his excrement.
At night we croon
By the light of a moon
Of his courage and his creed.
Hey ho there he goes
Oh woe for his foes
Long live the Tweedle seed.
Stanley, Stanley
Top of the hero class
Stanley, Stanley
We live to Kiss his Ass!

  • Your words are correct, although I would add a future tech storage medium probably if it makes sense to. You can have discs and no surviving functional drive to read them with. Although I think a bit of lubricant and maybe replace the few caps this tiny thing possibly has in it would revive one pretty easily, like any seized floppy or optical drive. Desiccant in air-tight storage totes with the discs I think is the plan. Crawl space to keep them cool. I do need to find binders with archival polypropylene or Tyvek sleeves. Apparently the standard ones use PVC which have plasticizers that can deposit onto the disc surface or react with the hard coat slowly over years. Or buy a butt load of jewel cases, that seems unnecessary.

edit: Curious Marc has an extreme example of recovering data from a fossil media format, which some weirdos like me may enjoy watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FVwheTVWko

  • I’ve considered tape of course, it’s just not in the household budget for now. One day it’ll happen because I want to archive 7th generation and then all the digital store front PC games I have modern day. Beyond that I don’t care very much about 8th on-wards. I’d be more selective there instead of saving full-sets. Legacy PC I’ll archive the eXo projects.

There’s a higher priority item in the budget involving DIY (as much as possible) solar power within 2 years before Fuckerberg powers on his Albertan data center…before the power plant dedicated to powering it is finished. Yep. I worry about future power bills.

Also, burning discs is dull! Nobody I know cares. We just find dull things interesting :P Well, at least IMO.

  • We are most often cowards as individuals unless we have a mental break and snap like Luigi where self preservation takes a back seat, we’d handle it better as an organised group but clearly none of us know how to begin and/or there’s not enough appetite for it to happen yet. I’ve heard it said nobody is willing until things get bad enough like if food becomes scarce. Idk. I’ve only known peace times with my needs met as they’re slowly eroded in a declining society, so I’m completely out of my element. How do I theoretically convince my union to drag the boss out of their house and cave their head in without being ineffectual and jailed/killed as another single day news cycle headline labeled a crazed solo mad man who is promptly forgotten.

One thing for sure is it ain’t gonna happen on censored social media owned by our enemies enforcing status quo or Fediverse instances that ban talk like this out of legal trouble fears like LW who also enforce status quo. Everyone likes to fantasize and maybe that cathartic release is part of the problem because the internet allows us to vent that frustration instead of harnessing it, but you actually get serious? You build a guillotine instead of posting guillotine.webp? Banned for inciting violence.

  • Scouts Canada is different I’d guess for history/reputation, not that I’ve looked into it. Wasn’t any religious stuff at least in my experience.

I was a Cub and a Scout, didn’t continue further. It was rather useful here since we learned winter survival and often did winter camping trips in Alberta. We’d hike out into a forest and set up camp, build tables/kitchen out of snow and stuff like that.

Then there were summer and winter Jamborees where troops from across the prairies competed in various activities. My favourite was capture the flag in chest deep snow in a field after dark, that was so much fun. They’d also bring out staff from Space & Science centers with telescopes or radio guys with portable radio stations. Besides the fun there was more in depth survival training at jamborees too like how to stay warm or warm up somebody else who is freezing, competions on starting fires without matches/lighters. On and on.

Of course there’s the badge earning and indoor regular meetups too but my memory is foggy there, too long ago. Sometimes involved carpentry. I still have a wooden chest I made in a school gym with a wolf head crudely drawn into the top with a soldering iron containing a bunch of old model rocketry stuff from when I was that age.

Also did the wooden model car races. At first it was cars and then later we built semi-trucks including the trailers. I’ve kept all of them my dad and I made.

Bottle drives and selling caramel popcorn and shit for funding too.

Only positive for me, my leaders weren’t pedos or overtly religious thankfully. I don’t really remember much about them except one guy going on a passionate rant about how only the first “The Matrix” film was good. I think Reloaded had just come out. Other kids were mostly fine. Didn’t really befriend them but also no bad blood. Edit: Oh I forgot to mention our troop was unisex, we had girls join too. Given what I remember Alberta being like in the 90’s - early 2000’s that seems progressive of them.

  • In the beginning the Universe was created.
This had made many people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.

    ― Douglas Adams

Mindless evolution cannot know what it has created. Unfortunately it makes things like carnivores, viruses, parasites, etc. Life eat life planet for the animals. Or feasts on the corpses. Humans showed up after all the competing two legged competitors got wiped out leaving only us, a mix of everyone we could breed with included. We have a gradient of different types of minds some of which are violently incompatible with the others, some of which are objectively detrimental to all living things while they live and breathe. The rich and powerful that always end up in charge have been the same the entire time and are rarely defeated for long. Another point: We have private mail of various Pharaohs from ancient Egypt. Look at how greedy and self interested they all are, with huge egos which are easily injured:

One of which is begging the Pharaoh for gold so intensely, that it started to remind me of:

Give orange me give eat orange me eat orange give me eat orange give me you

    Same as it ever was.
