As an update / for posterity - after 64h on the KillaWatt, I’m clocking this at 0.62 KW / day running at the max setting of -8F. That’s pretty decent. On par with many chest freezers.

They do these things at night when they aren’t busy making powepoints.

It’s set to - 8F. I checked it and it runs at - 4F in actuality.

Agreed. I’d say anything under two months even it’s diminishing returns.

There are a lot of good travel options. Coffee sock is fun and makes excellent coffee camping with really low footprint for example. Instant isn’t a bad option for camping necessarily, but certainly not the only option.

This was cheaper for what I found at least and the energy rating numbers weren’t that far off, maybe because it is so small. Energy star estimate of $14 a year to run, but not clear if that’s at freezer levels. I do think I’ll hook it up to my killawatt to see what it’s pulling this weekend though!

Have you tried just grabbing the rubber? One thing I love about the switch is that if I turn it off I can just pop it directly on the counter top and I usually don’t get as much as a single drop coming out of it.

Perhaps a bigger scale would help you feel more stable? I used to brew into the mug with a 3d printed riser (the switch silicone dips pretty low into most mugs). I now use a Hario 03 decanter and it helps cool the coffee down too which is nice. I brew to completion into the decanter all on the scale and I’m using a glass 03 switch which is a real beast! I brew for two with this sometimes too. Ive been doing this for years with no issue. It may just be an acclimation thing.
