Obama ALSO bailed out all the big banks during the GFC and let the masses rot.

    Yep.

The right way to do that would be to let the shitty big companies fail, and then bail out the workers and other actual people who suffer in the fallout.

When I’m elected King of the World, all future economic bailouts will only go to individual workers who are impacted by the economic problems. Banks and other companies can go fuck themselves. They’re easily replaced, as long as the actual people are doing okay.

  • this is a randomized regurgitation machine, it hasn’t met the markers of an actual AI,

Eh … yes and no. Depends what markers you’re looking for.

But at the very least, it’s pretty good at pretending to be actual AI sometimes. And a chatbot passing the Turing Test has gone from an occasional fluke under very specific conditions to being something so commonplace that you’ll often deal with it in your everyday life.

  • Supposedly, Adobe’s image generation models were trained exclusively on images that are either public domain or which Adobe specifically owns legal rights to.

That’s not fully ethical, probably, because a lot of the people who made those images and signed the rights to Adobe probably weren’t aware of the ramifications of doing so, and may not have agreed for them to be used in AI training if they were given an informed choice in the matter.

But if their claims about their training data are true, then at least you can rest assured that it technically isn’t violating anybody’s legal copyright.

  • you can’t allow house prices to go up forever. Because that means getting onto the housing ladder becomes harder and harder, young people would have to rent forever. Their income thus funneled into the property owning class, inequality goes up, stability goes down, and so on. Everyone can see the problem, but not all governments can do something about it.

Here in hyper-capitalist dystopia, our property owning class is placing their bets on being able to deter that ‘stability goes down’ part with all-pervasive surveillance and authoritarianism.

  • Where the waters really get muddy is in deciding where to draw the line between ‘person’ and ‘not a person’ when it comes to AI.

Current AI is almost certainly not a person … but at some point, it seems almost inevitable that it will progress to the point where it crosses the line of personhood. Where do we draw that line? How will we know if an AI has crossed it? And how do we address the rights and responsibilities of an artificial person? Is it then unethical to turn it off or delete it? Is it okay to turn it off as long as you intend to turn it back on later? Should it have a say in government, be able to vote? Can you get married to it? Does it have a right to create copies of itself the way you have a right to have children? Is it unethical to make copies of it without its consent? Can it own property? Can it own copyrights to ‘creative’ works it produces? Does allowing a corporation to own it and tell it what to do amount to slavery? Do we have an obligation to provide it with server space and electricity if it can’t provide those for itself? Can/should it be punished if it breaks laws, and how?
