I said something in one single other discussion. I don’t appreciate the implied remark.
I won’t say anything anymore about it, because clearly that targets me as a problem.
There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy. Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they’ve already enlisted in the cause. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

This will be taken the wrong way, as usual, but…
I wish society would both encourage such reporting without subtle victim blaming, which is what discourages so many to say anything for years, if ever. I also wish society wouldn’t assume one side is right and the other wrong before the evidence is out. Some men’s lives have been ruined by false allegations. I’m not going to argue about how few, lots of them are also a problem. But we should be an innocent before proven guilty society. We aren’t, and people will still look at someone who ended up innocent after a false claim as if they did do something wrong.
Ruin the guys who are rapists. But sometimes that claim is used as a weapon without any substance, and that’s terrible for those who need justice done. I wish we could do better than that.
We’ll see how much of all that gets twisted around to mean something else I didn’t say… :/

You were looking for rational reasons, weren’t you? Not here.

He’ll absolutely question any changes that don’t favor him, but there is nothing he can do directly to stop it. The worst that can be done is give him attention as he has a melt down, but that gets media their clicks, so they will.

It’s possible making Ohio a state was a mistake, but a bit too late to question it now.

A fitting spelling error.

“They” being people. It might be a feature of just having enough people in a group.

Nothing’s perfect, but there isn’t one main database to control. They can make the independent user harder to hear and to talk to others, but it’s far better than one domain where there’s absolute say on what can be seen and said. The main lemmy sites could go down and the rest would function, and others would grow to take their place. They’re only larger because they were active first and people weren’t aware they could pick others, or preferred to go where most were so it would be more active.

We should protect valuable assets first.

“If you’ve got nothing to hide” is only for the commons.
And paying higher premiums because there’s less participants, as well as needing to cover the cost of all the extra hands in the pot.

It’s also a huge country that’s very diverse, so one region or state isn’t going to be aligned with others they don’t even know to have solidarity.
But there will start being hot spots for the same reasons in Europe. It’s possible the US has better tools to control and pacify any movements (with work dependence - money and healthcare, being one of them).

The early hate was just in the period where TNG was trying to figure itself out, and if you couldn’t relate to Wesley in some way, you hated him for his part. But it got better, and the show needed that age representative.

Meaning they don’t expect to get AGI anytime soon. Both AGI and ASI are far beyond what we have, and frankly if we had ASI it would be in control of everything, because of the basic definition.

And replaceable.
What would you say you do here?
I take directives from the CEO and board and deliver them to the goddamn employees, so they don’t have to deal with them. I have people skills, dammit!

Like if a company tried to copyright a left click… wait, one of them tried this, didn’t they?

It’s revenge, but it’s also avoiding responsibility. The words say it, “sentenced to death, and may God have mercy on your soul”. Everyone already lost. The victims. The murderer. Society. Killing doesn’t solve anything, it doesn’t deter more murders, it just removes them from being the state’s problem.
And it doesn’t allow us to pursue the question everyone asks, why did this happen? Because they’re dead.

The first Earth Day was 56 years ago. “The Limits to Growth” was published in 1972 (and didn’t even include climate change, so yay). We started to stand up, but I think got pushed back down quickly.
What about all the major companies who have scraped their workforce to replace it with AI, so sure that it would pay off. They also can’t afford for AI to go under, so they’ll add to the “please bail us out” for the good of the economy.
The house reminded me of Little Computer People on the C-64.
