Just look who is up for reelection in 2 and 4 years. Apply the current mood to the vote and there’s a dozen of them on the way out.

I don’t find the ubiquity of Steam as strong as it was say 15 years ago. People are far more open to having their games on different platforms, they just don’t particularly care for the Epic Games store.
I think the argument you are making is the right one though: you need to offer something different. Serve a different segment, and have some nice features to attract people. That’s kind of it.

When you own and run public companies, the damage remains.

Don’t need to impeach anyone if you just hand them over to The Hague.

I think they’ll get a 2/3 on some things. Republicans will start breaking rank now that Trump is a lame duck.

Meanwhile, random queer artists have their Instagrams nuked for no discernible reason.

The Republicans folded like lawn chairs once they knew they couldn’t block the release of the Epstein Files. They just need to be pressured enough to throw the executive under the bus to save their own asses.
XigmaNAS is a cool project. Branched off TrueNAS a long time ago and is mostly FreeBSD with extra bits. Unfortunately the update schedule is a bit slow and they aren’t keeping up with the latest versions.
I think at this point it would be best to just release the XigmaNAS web gui and tools as packages for FreeBSD.
I liked how easy it was to configure as a USB boot to RAM embedded OS. But I moved to FreeBSD 15.1 to not be using an EOL FreeBSD 14.3 system.
You’d be surprised how easy they are to use. Most are just “next” simulators when it comes to the install.
They are geared mostly to server use, so not much attention is given to spinning up a DE quickly, but even OpenBSD gets a window manager up with a few checked boxes in the install. I think there’s a package you can get on FreeBSD that is just an install script to setup a Gnome/KDE/XFCE/wtv environment in just a few prompts. I believe GhostBSD is meant to be the desktop one with the gui and easy to use installer.
I found all three BSDs Ive used easier to setup than Debian, for reference. Things make logical sense and are fundamentally really simple. Way simpler than Linux in general.
The people who work in the BSDs have genuine love and passion for software. There are different philosophies to each, but they are so focused in ways you won’t see with broader linux projects. They are a great contribution.
-I’ve used FreeBSD and XigmaNAS for my NAS. Would choose over Linux any day.
-I’m going to spin up NetBSD for my Dreamcast. Maybe some other really vintage gear.
-I run OpenBSD on an old 32 bit netbook, because it still comfortably supports 32 bit systems. Linux 32 bit support is inconsistent.

Knowing what salaries are in Montreal, they must have been bumping up against funding partners saying 90k a year for everyone (before other benefits?) is wildly unsustainable.

“noting that the studio is still working toward legally becoming a co-op.”
Its so fuckin cringe how they are still messing around and havent gone coop yet. Its really not that hard. It’s so fishy. Going around saying you are a coop when you aren’t is unethical.
The whole thing belongs to the founders 100% and the coop stuff is functionally theatre as far as anyone is concerned. They own all the IP. None of the workers have any of the legal privileges afforded to them by a worker cooperative, only what the founders decided is “cooperative bahaviour”.
I’ve known these guys since college and when they founded the place. At this point, I think they are posers.
I’m sorry to the people who lost their jobs and that your bosses outsourced it to your peers to fabricate consent.

The first result is always “Why are asking us when you can just google it?”

McDonald’s does but its still more expensive than making hamburgers at home, why?
Because profit motive is an inefficiency.
Profit motive is also a misallocation of limited resources. Regular soup kitchens can feed hundreds of people at the cost of only a few dollars per portion. The only advantage they have is buying wholesale. Imagine spawning out of thin air a nonprofit with the vertical integration and logistics of McDonalds. How many people could it feed for next to nothing?

There’s also been a multiyear trend of dropping ad sales overall, especially with higher quality companies. Meaning they need far more impressions of the same buyers to make ends meet.
They are all experiencing a recession, hidden by the Ai bubble, so the only people buying ads are lower quality scam companies, gambling and other bullshit. These are less sustainable clients that can vanish at any moment.
Ads targetting people who cant afford to buy things are also not super viable.

I believe them in that, in so much as I think they are unable to improve their models anymore. Training expenses have been dropping and model improvements have been unimpressive lately. They kinda peaked early this year.
They won’t train on the open internet, because they won’t train at all.
They already trained on everything and employ virtually no scientific experts anymore. They aren’t seeing the jumps they want so they pretend it’s just too dangerous for the public.

I’ve seen so many Discord servers just devolve into degeneracy and power tripping. Anything that wrecks those kinds of spaces is good for everyone.

Old people still call it La Fete de Dollard. lol
No, SUSE lays off workers because it has been purchased by private equity ghouls and they have been looking to flip it quickly this past year.
