Yeah, let’s not count our chickens just yet on world events. Though I’d love to hope you’re right.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump Is Melting Down In Real Time And Frantically Calling Reporters
141·3 days agoHonestly. Agreed.
While in office Trump is essentially immune to consequences - there’s very little point in trying to go after him again.
But his administration and DOJ have been doing some very blatantly corrupt things for a while now, and their only safeguard was the Republican Congress refusing to do anything about it.
Now that the entire Congress is in Democrat hands, they’re vulnerable - so going after them and essentially neutering Trump’s tirade against democracy for the rest of his administration certainly seems the best path forward.
Though we’ve got the next two years to find out what’s gonna go down.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Scrooge would definitely be on that list.
17·5 days agoYeah, you don’t get to Scrooge McDuck levels of money by being friendly. He absolutely would’ve sold out Epstein then made his own island, because the money bin doesn’t fill itself.
In the nicest way to Anon, it may not be paedophilic, but 27 dating 20 is still sus as fuck.
Sure, the older you are the less the age gap matters - like nobody would look at an 80 year old weirdly for dating a 70 year old.
… but at 20 years old, a 7 year age gap is 1/3 of their lifespan apart. That’s a fucking lot!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Will we return to analog technology to some degree?
6·16 days agoWhy is AI development continuing?
There is demand, but that demand only exists because consumers aren’t being exposed to the actual price of AI. It’s all being subsidised by investor hype.
Not one of the frontier AI companies have made a profit as of today, not a single one..
The only ones making profit are those exploiting the subsidised pricing for business (or to pull huge scams) and the guys selling the
shovelscomponents for data-centres, like Nvidea - who are desperate to keep the investor money flowing, to the point that they themselves are pouring some profits into their own AI company customers in the unofficially dubbed great AI Investor circle-jerk.… And though this Bloomberg report was from January 2026, if you look hard enough you’ll notice this circular financing hasn’t stopped, in-fact Nvidea even acknowledged this circular fimancing themselves not even two months ago.
If the only way this keeps going is propping up the industry with investor money and circular financing, then when one of those eventually give and the public are exposed to the true price of AI - what happens then?
A bit into conspiracy territory now, but it’s what has me suspecting that a lot of the news we hear about AI going rogue and what-not isn’t as accidental as it seems. Any publicity is good publicity and keeps AI on the forefront of investors minds.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•You’ve been tasked with defining a new area of criminal law called “economic and financial violence,” and creating laws to prevent it. What actions would you try to criminalize?
6·16 days agoMake it a legal requirement for any indefinite revokable license product on sale to be sold as “indefinitely licensing”. Any term implying irevokable ownership (I.e. buying, purchasing) would be illegal to use.
It would wisen a lot of people up very quickly to what’s essentially a long-play con being pulled on them constantly, especially as some games companies *cough* Sony *cough* are looking to force digital-only ecosystems.
… And if being forced to use that term makes the companies doing this squeemish, well they could always just stop selling revokable licenses.
Man I always hated this, because it IS actually the bell’s job to say when we leave - because if we don’t, then we’re late to the next teacher’s lesson, who then either has to do the same thing, or cut their teaching plan short to compensate - neither of which is a fair deal for us or that next teacher

5 minutes is paltry. Devs should be required to submit an uncut recording of the first 30 minutes of gameplay from launching via Steam before they can release a game or push an update.
I don’t think that’s an unreasonable demand, cause if a game can’t launch or survive 30 minutes of normal gameplay, it shouldn’t be on the store for people to waste their time and/or money on.
