The idea that the people wrecking the world are playing 5d chess and only pretending to be delusional idiots becomes less believable by the day. Things may get worse, but their plans are going to blow up in their faces, because they don’t contend with reality and that makes for bad plans.

A big part of the premise EA people seem to be working with is that earning a lot of money is itself beneficial or at least morally neutral, so what makes the most sense is to spend your time and energy earning as much money as possible so you can spend that money to enable and compel other people to do charity work, the good of which will supposedly outweigh anything you can do yourself directly.
Personally I see this as a catastrophic underestimation of how evil capitalism is. Anything you do to contribute to the economy is harmful, and you can’t make up for that with more structuring other people’s lives in employment arrangements. The best thing you can do morally with respect to money is to both earn and spend as little of it as possible. Other people’s actions do not count as your own just because you paid for them, if you want to do good you have to do it yourself. What the world needs the most is de-financialization of our lives, and doing the most good should involve contributing to that with your own life and also helping others move away from being ruled by money.

Pretty much only Lemmy. I use it because I believe centralized social media and the companies that run it are killing the internet, and want to put energy into something that might replace it instead of creating free content for Reddit as I did for years.

Yeah idk why I have this impression, I saw it like 30 years ago and don’t remember too many details

That movie was terrifying in general, personally I was more scared of the ceiling lamp

I’ve been messing around with decision models, I feel like they would be a pretty good fit for that because the only thing that would need to be done is choosing one of a finite set of commands and choosing its parameters also from a finite set of choices, which is what decision models are for, along with being very fast and having low system requirements.
The risks associated with hosting user content are the main reason for using a data centre instead of home hosting.
Is the legal liability actually different? Wouldn’t you still be equally responsible for what’s on your VPS, since you control it?
I don’t know about the specific scenario in the comic, but it seems understandable to be afraid of being perceived as racist just because of how much of a touchy subject it is, if you aren’t able to be confident in knowing how what you say will be interpreted.
