8·1 day agoYes, but the infrared radiators for a single megawatt are apx the size of 4 tennis courts. Until there’s a space elevator, that’s a tremendous amount of resources to get into orbit.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How do you process a big traumatic event like being laid off?English
4·4 days agoThis is the truth, the trauma hits so hard the first time.
Because with LED any issue requires a new lamp, the whole thing. With halogen bulbs you can simply replace the bulb or malfunctioning piece and it’ll cost significantly less. Had a clip break on an LED and the only fix was a whole new assembly.
People self censoring is fucking dumb.
I doubt this is as much of an issue in Europe, but here in the States the headlights of the average pavement princess (large truck that hasn’t ever seen a day of work) shines directly into the rearview mirror of a regular height car. Nothing aftermarket at all, just stupidly large vehicles being a nuisance.
I still prefer halogen bulbs because they’re so inexpensive to replace, while if your LED goes bad it’s gonna be expensive costly.
I will never forget going to the store in the mall and having Neverwinter nights in one hand, Morrowind in the other and the clerk waking up to ten year old me and saying “wow, great taste.” offhandedly. I bought Morrowind that day and had never been so completely lost in a game. I ran around getting killed by everything for weeks!

He didn’t mention the timeframe, he just said until we do; so it could be a few decades, centuries, or even millennia before space mining is a reality.
