I joined a book club earlier this year and have now almost reached my goal of 50 books (mixed audio and physical). Honestly one of the only thing that brings me joy these days.

I missed my flight after getting lost in London and the airline worker changed and upgraded my ticket free of charge for the next flight.

I really don’t know what I would have done without her act of kindness. I would have been left stranded in London without money, a dead phone, and a credit card that got suspended because I tried to wire myself money before my phone died and it was flagged as suspicious activity.

I once watched two kids get hit by a woman who was turning left in a similar situation to this, but it wasn’t even that she was looking away she literally just said she couldn’t see because the sun was in her face but decided to proceed through the crosswalk (and it was a marked crosswalk in that case) anyway.

Would’ve gotten hit myself if my dad hadn’t been so cautious.

Fight Club at its core is about how society fails to provide men a safety net for their emotions / personal development and instead pushes them to things like consumerism and unrealistic expectations of masculinity. This is what triggers the narrator to become nihilistic, angry, and eventually violent. The reason society is the way it is towards men is because it was set up that way by the patriarchy to keep them in their societal place and so that capitalism can keep capitalizing.

There’s lots of articles about it (and how its so often misunderstood). I’d also recommend the book, as the different ending drives the point home in a different way imo.

It’s very white technically (cast), but its various messages speak more to class struggle and patriarchy which affect all the races, so I personally wouldn’t consider it a “white movie” in the same sense as some others in this thread.

I love that movie so fucking much. It saddens me that I will never again experience the thrill of watching it with a white person (many white people in fact) in a movie theatre. I’m not sure I’d want to because it made me feel physically ill but what a thrill.
