Competitive multiplayers aren’t the only game that use anticheat but coop too. And who’s to say that drm doesn’t take the opportunity to start requiring EAC v2 type protections for single player games.

There’s a reason people recommend AMD over NVIDIA for Linux use.

Someone on reddit wondered if this is the embrace phase of embrace, extend, extinguish.
This is what most people arguing in favor of this don’t get. This changes the entire ecosystem via some kind of peer-pressure once more and more game developers implement EACv2 (from the side of both developers as well as players). And other AC vendors like BattlEye will likely also follow suit. Imagine letting Tim into your kernel… I’m not even letting Gabe into my kernel.
Also RIP custom kernel modifications/tweaks for the sake of performance or new features if you want to play any future game which will implement EACv2. Also RIP applying in-development or bugfix patches, especially AMDGPU ones. And RIP OOT modules for niche hardware that’s not packaged by the distro.

There’s some more comments I’ve been reading on /r/linux_gaming and there has been some saying it is getting root type privileges and skepticism behind it.

Your reply doesn’t make me sure if it is running on a similar privilege level to root.
I don’t use Linux to give that level of trust to anticheat, and I don’t see the benefit at that point of dual booting Windows instead.
So are you saying it doesn’t get root type privileges? And can be as trusted to not be as invasive as anticheat is on windows being able to look through your entire system?

Yeah, there was a misunderstanding. Uber made me think you thought it would be better if Steam started overspending and overhiring and going public, which hasn’t really worked out well for customers with the services undergoing enshitification as increasing profits every quarter becomes the goal.
And leads to people being fired too despite record profits the previous quarter with bonuses for upper management.
So Uber being brought up was confusing, since I hadn’t understood the angle you were going for.

This seems worse than just dual booting Windows, which you’d end up having to dual boot Linux if the reason you got into Linux was to get away from sketchy permissions.
I don’t like the normalization of this type of anticheat for Linux, and if other games adopt this it seems like this would lead to a worse situation than having games not support Linux if more Linux games start adopting this EACv2 requirement.

Yep, I remember that was what caused me to stop watching LTT after they decided to keep promoting them due to trust is such a big part of VPNs. Convinced me none if their opinions are worth listening to and they are modern day infomercials.

I’m talking about you bringing up Uber as a positive example of a way to run a business. I don’t think you know what you are talking about if you are using Uber to defend your position. Because Uber is one of the worst examples of a good company.
That you think it is some indie passion project is very questionable when it comes to the grasp of companies and how terrible they can be for customers and employees. Unsustainable mass corporations like Uber is what is leading to bunch of borrowed money flowing around and inflating the stock market while those at top get rich, get government subsidies, and firing their employees with all they care about being projected valuation.

You say it like it is bad, but isn’t it actually a good thing that a company chooses the profitable route over an unsustainable model that requires infinite growth and leads to constant employee turnover?
Practice of running companies at a loss and only being kept afloat because of VC money seems to make everything worse. Company that is losing money while those at top rakes money seems to be what makes competitors harder as it requires huge outside capital to survive long enough for over a decade losing money.

But easy to get around by discounting it for less than the listed price. Isthereanydeals and gg.deals is a great source for historical price trends across multiple storefronts from official to approved key selling stores.

Way more than 80 games are being released. It not 2 decades ago anymore where a decent indie title was enough to get you noticed.
Biggest challenge now isn’t even the 30% cut but just people even knowing your game exists with the massively low barrier to games now. You aren’t just competing against triple a titles, but every other aspiring indie dev hoping to make the next Balatro.
Its a plus now if your games get pirated, since that means among the thousands of gamss released per month you have a chance to actually have people know your game exists.

I don’t trust the camera to be 100% foolproof so I also stick something on the front of my laptop camera. For my phone I 3d printed a clip that snaps on and fits on top of my case.
Something like this but for my case.

Googly eye design on top would be funny.

Big tech is getting the contracts to collect data for verification services. This is a win for big tech.
They just need to continue to put out a product/service that makes customers feel like they are the priority as opposed to enterprise customers. Very few regular people focused companies these days. Another example would be Costco, which people also love despite being public, which makes them a super unicorn.
It’s very rare these days for companies to put focus on regular people for money instead of knowing they can abuse them due to lack og options regular folk have. And the bar is so low that it is enough to have people content.
