minus-squareTwinklebreeze @lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up9·3 days agoEverything on this list is great advice, but non fiction books make me want to kill myself. I’ve found one tolerable non fiction. God help me if I ever have to read a biography or self help book again.
minus-squarestringere@sh.itjust.workslinkfedilinkarrow-up2·2 days ago non fiction books make me want to kill myself I usually feel the same. A few notable exceptions I have found: [Salt: A World History)] (https://www.markkurlansky.com/books/salt-a-world-history/) - the history of salt is way more interesting than you would think. [The Mother Tongue: English and How It Got That Way] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mother_Tongue) - English is a damn weird language. [A People’s History of the United States] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_People’s_History_of_the_United_States) - a much more accurate and honest history than the whitewashed version that public schools teach.

minus-squareTwinklebreeze @lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up2·3 days agoYes, but those are my two least favorite.
minus-squareP1nkman@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up4·2 days agoCheck out Bill Brysons books, they’re great and funny! You could start with A Short History Of Nearly Everything.

minus-squareWakko@hell.cloudlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up3·3 days agoI like True Crime. Or how-to’s… learning about a subject. Science is great. An easy source of interesting non-fiction is https://arxiv.org/ . ;-)
