I actually agree with the premise that developers need to adapt and stay on top of how to use AI right. But… If the engineers using AI are more productive, won’t that already be rewarded in standard performance reviews? Like if you don’t use AI you’re performance will lag, so why add another metric?

As a developer, no one asked for and no one cares about your opinion. I’ve been doing this shit for over a decade. I know how to ship good software. I’ve never had an engineering manager know more than architects or leads or seniors until they started demanding AI usage. Suddenly they knew how to make software. Well guess what, it’s shit. But you think we need to use it and adapt. Fuck off.

Sorry. I also didn’t ask for your opinion. Who turned comments on for this website??

Anyways, cool. So we disagree on if it makes developers more productive. What I’m saying though is they shouldn’t include “did the developer use AI” as a metric. Then in performance reviews we’ll just judge people on what they achieved.

        Have the day you deserve.

Obviously, the chatbots aren’t increasing metrics. So they have to get drastic to force chatbot use.
