Matthew Unglesbee admitted to sending the letters to four unidentified politicians, officials say

An Illinois man accused of sending letters containing suspicious white powder to four members of Congress has been arrested after he allegedly wrote his own name and return address on the envelopes, according to authorities.

Matthew Unglesbee, 36, of Quincy, remained in the custody of US marshals on Tuesday on federal charges of perpetrating a hoax and sending threatening communications through the mail.

In an eight-page criminal complaint unsealed on Monday, Charis Hobbs – a taskforce agent with the FBI’s Springfield office – said Unglesbee admitted during an interview on Sunday that he sent the letters to the four unidentified politicians.

The original anthrax mail attacks weren’t even designed to kill senators, much less whatever this moronic boomer copycat did.

tl;dr anthrax is a terrible bioweapon choice with a limited number of people capable of doing it, most experts agree the goal was to panic congress into taking bioterrorism seriously, not the deaths themselves
