Now the DSA and progressives need to push the Democratic party into focusing on corruption and ethics in government. I’d say that pretty much all of our current problems have the same root cause – corruption. You can fix all the other problems, but if you don’t deal with corruption those problems will pop back up faster and harder.
Insist on an anti corruption agenda.
Maybe if dems win 2028 and get 60 senate seats, they will create a bill to get money out of politics. I am weaving dreams.
Medicare for all would be a huge boost for the economy. I’d be able to retire which would result in three new jobs to replace my one job and selling my house and moving, which would free up some housing for a young family. There are millions of people like me.
Also it would allow people to job shop(or start a business). More competition for workers, thus raising wages.
And we’d be able to say, “We’ve joined the civilized world!”.
Keep weaving!
Edit: a word
Medicare for all would be huge.
Getting billionaire cash out of politics is bipartisan, far more of a class divide than a red/blue divide.
Rich politicians that are on the take and heavily subsidized by PACs and especially dark money love it, on both sides of the aisle, and work to keep it legal at every level, including via their SCOTUS picks.
But regular people that want to enter civic service, as well as established politicians that are genuinely there to serve their communities as opposed to simply enriching themselves via power brokering, all hate it because it means that they can’t even get a look in, or if they’re already in then every two years (or whenever their own election cycle comes around) they have to stop everything and try to match the overwhelming amount of free cash their well-heeled opponent suddenly has to blanket airwaves and mailboxes and emails in their district.
Big money is a pox on both houses. Look at what Montana just did. Look at what American Promise is doing: they only need thirty-four states to pass a constitutional amendment to get big money out of politics and already have twenty-five.
This is not a hard sell on either side. It’s just been made to look that way for over forty years by the rich who stand to lose their political power if they can’t stay propped up by insane amounts of donor cash.
You’re not weaving dreams. It is possible. And perhaps now even likely.
No real impact for Trump personally though. He hates losers so much, I bet he’ll become a Democrat again by the end of the week…
Coalition? Collapse?
Trump dragged the country to war and economic ruin. Once he is gone everyone will go back to their normal red versus blue ways.
Man, literally day one after the election, which probably didn’t go the way you predicted, and already with the prognostications of doom.
It’s ok to be happy for a little while.
He wanted it to go the other way so he could I told you so. Accelerationists are just like that. They’d burn us all to feel smug about it.
Or… I’m relieved that the dems won, but I looked at the numbers of the actual results.
Actually as it stands with Sanders caucusing with Democrats, then they can afford to lose Fetterman plus one rotating “objection of conscience” position for bills they want passed, like Turek for example, if he’s trying to take a bigoted stance on trans people once in a while. MS and AK will be bonus pickups.
I honestly think Turek won’t object on Medicare bill even if it implicitly includes help for trans people, unless pressed. Similar to how Republicans rotated between Rand, Murkowski and Collins to sometimes object to a bill just for show.
Both independents caucus with the Democrats. Angus King is the other one. The Democrats have an effective 54 seats, with 2 more possible pickups.
Sanders tends to be more reliable with bills that push the envelope to progressive policies, but yeah there’s plenty of leeway regardless. I only worry about the leader and whips of both houses, whether Schumer especially is going to slow walk any form of progress or if the progressive wing can end-run around the manufactured consent to lethargic politics that Schumer seems most comfortable with.
