Plenty of outdoor adventures easily reached from Manhattan.
Define “easily”.
You can kayak up the Hudson River. Rock climb near the Cloisters. There are canoe trips down the Bronx River. Ocean swimming and surfing a few blocks from the A train stop in Far Rockaway.
Plus plenty of trains and buses to upstate NY and New Jersey trails and campgrounds.
