  • The black line represents a branching path you can take in a game.

There are points in a game that are impossible to return to after leaving the area or like killing a certain boss enemy. (Red X in the image)

When there are cool/special items only accessible in those areas (yellow star), if you leave and can’t come back, you might miss the item and be unable to get it ever without restarting and playing the game all over again just to get the chance to pick it up this time around.

Things get much worse when there are multiple items or even boss fights like this in the same game, where doing things ouf of order can lock you out of full questlines (like in Elden Ring where reaching Altus Plateau before getting as far as possible through everyone’s questlines will make half of them unable to be completed for no reason whatsoever)

  • If I can build my own and mentally switch off any sensory input from them at will, probably. Otherwise I’d probably stray away from implants unless I really needed a prosthetic.

I’d also be much more keen on the idea if I knew i could easily fully swap bodies in the event I accidentally fuck one up with the mods. Like if it was more on the side of “Ghost In The Shell” cyber-brains (assuming sclerosis wasn’t a big problem) I’d be pretty stoked to get a full body prosthetic to avoid aging and such knowing I can survive as just a brain-case in an emergency.

  • “Oh you mean I need to go down like six inches from my origin in the brain to the laryx? Well fuck you! I’m gonna go all the way down till I hit the lungs then loop under the aorta before heading back up the same direction I came from and then I’ll reach the larynx” — The Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve

Really gives me Zapp Brannigan “now there’s a route with some chest hair” vibes
