ACAB, Anti-War, and I hate Democrats, Republicans, and billionaires. (Yes, even your favorite billionaire: the pop star, the philanthropost, the legendary athlete, or the soft-spoken investment guru who cosplays as middle class.) With each passing day I get a little closer to hating everyone.
Also, I refuse to use Donald’s last name out of hatred for the man and his brand, FYI.

25·8 hours agofrankly insulting
It’s always ‘just vote harder’ with these partisan assholes, who just kind of ignore the last 40 years of history since the Reagan Administration, and the geographical and political differences between the US and other countries.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Driver plows into group of 30 bicyclists on Halloween-themed ride, killing 2 before fleeingEnglish
212·9 hours agoI’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.
Incidents like this are why groups of cyclists take up the entire road. (Which is their right.) If they don’t, the danger is increased exponentially because drivers, for whatever reason, become crazy people behind the wheel and will endanger people’s lives on purpose. There have even been videos shared on this channel of drivers going offroad to peel around cyclists in a very dangerous and reckless fashion.
Sucks that this selfish prick couldn’t call an Uber like a grown-ass adult. I hope that the law will throw the book at him and he does years in prison, but I doubt it. Car-related deaths get a slap on the wrist in this country.

Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Blanche says Trump isn’t trying to meddle with Alaska election results by suing over Senate race
19·9 hours agoDonald is 100% trying to fuck with the Alaska election results. Same with the Omar race in Minnesota.
The only thing you or I can do about this is to vote. If your precinct allows early voting, take the time and do it. (I’m voting today, in fact.)
Do not trust your ballot to mail-in voting this time around if you do not have to, as mail-in voting is fraught with perfectly legal ways to manipulate it, such as shutting down USPS machinery “for maintenance” as was done in 2020.
Be there and put your ballot in the box yourself. That is the only way to know your voice is being heard this time around.

Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Trump failed to stop inflation. Now Republicans may pay the price in the midterm elections
6·10 hours agoWhat’s interesting to me is that I’m absolutely sure Donald believes everything is a-okay. He is chronically online and consumes nothing but algorithmically-weighted content and Fox News, and someone who does that is living in a different reality than the one that actually exists around them.
That said, let’s all hope the two dozen or so DSA’s get elected. That’s the only shred of change we’re going to get at the national level, because centrists’ record demonstrates that they’re a-okay with price gouging and inflation too.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Optimists of Lemmy, what gives you hope about the future?
301·21 hours agoThere’s one thing that’s happened this year that inspired actual hope in me. (I am generally a cynic, having read too many history books.)
I made a video about Flock buying out their employees and, in researching it, learned that Flock (as of a month ago) had lost nearly 400 contracts in 36 states. An independent outfit is tracking it because, obviously, major media outlets don’t want to talk about the unpopularity of fascism.
Thing is, this accelerated last summer, which means a lot of people who are otherwise apolitical are learning about Flock, going to city council meetings and doing boring, pedestrian and effective political organizing for a good cause.
That is objectively a good thing.

I hope Lula does enough that people won’t grow dissatisfied and flock the fascists next time.

World News@lemmy.world•Musk says he was behind Starlink speed restriction after service in Ukraine is restoredEnglish
3·1 day agoYup. There was a period a couple of months ago where there was a new story about Musk’s feckless incompetence every single day of the week, and I made a video about it. He gets a ton of bad press but it’s rare for there to be a brand new story about how shitty he is every day of the week.
I hate that the only people who get time with him on camera are sycophants or playing the role of sycophants because it profits them. It would be so wonderful if journalists did their job and brought up his failed predictions every single time a camera is pointed his way.

Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Obama, in Midwest, assails ‘cruelty’ and indecency from Trump and his allies in the midterm campaign
1·1 day agoHe’s not wrong, but I don’t think Obama’s the right messenger here.
I vividly recall how he let the bankers skate when they destroyed the US Economy, how he let NYPD brutalize Occupy, how he allowed torture and his kill list, and his blood-soaked foreign policy. Heck, he even had the balls to walk into Flint and performatively sip a glass of water in front of people whose water had been poisoned for profit. Even Donald had it in him to pretend to be empathetic to Flint residents when he visited.
Five families, just on my street, lost their homes during his presidency. Multiply that times a few million and you get why Democrats didn’t want to associate with him later in his presidency. (Not unlike how so many Republicans are distancing themselves from Donald right now.) Your performative empathy doesn’t matter when you have real power to create meaningful change and you let bankers make people homeless for profit they don’t even need.
Why this man is still so popular baffles me.

2·1 day agoBusiness leaders have always had tremendous power, and I’m sure many on this board are aware of how American business leaders like Kennedy and Ford tried to influence wars past.
But still… holy fuck.
It’s fortunate that Starlink-esque technology is being developed in other places, because this is a monopoly that need to be fucking gone if a single, unstable ketamine addict can unilaterally decide that he’s going to hamstring a whole-ass country.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I need to change careers but I’m scared. If you ever did this, how did you power through and didn’t feel like a loser for wasting time?
4·3 days agoI spent 12 years in a job that was killing me. Probably literally.
I switched careers, found better employment, and I’ve since lost 150 pounds (though gained 60 back), bought a home, paid off my student loans, and I’m so, so much happier.
Life is a huge risk, but a new gig can be life-changing in a good way.
The only thing I’d say with switching careers right now is that you 100% should not do it if the next gig isn’t 100% lined up and in the bag, because getting employed in the first place is harder now than it’s been in decades.
