A group of about 30 people were out for a late-night bicycle ride in Montclair when a driver, allegedly under the influence, collided with several of them. Two died and police arrested the driver on several charges.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.
Incidents like this are why groups of cyclists take up the entire road. (Which is their right.) If they don’t, the danger is increased exponentially because drivers, for whatever reason, become crazy people behind the wheel and will endanger people’s lives on purpose. There have even been videos shared on this channel of drivers going offroad to peel around cyclists in a very dangerous and reckless fashion.
Sucks that this selfish prick couldn’t call an Uber like a grown-ass adult. I hope that the law will throw the book at him and he does years in prison, but I doubt it. Car-related deaths get a slap on the wrist in this country.
Wait, they weren’t taking the lane? Are you sure?
I assume by default that they took the lane, especially if it was more than 1 person.
Not that it would guarantee protection from a drunk driver, but it’s very important to mitigate risk by increasing visibility. And communicating to the other drivers that they need to pass you properly like any other vehicle
That’s what I mean. I just didn’t word it well. :)
