Thinking it might be a mistake is understandable. Just moving the kid instead of just calling the parents again to confirm is incompetence.

He did regularly exploit everything for maximum profit though, so really he’d still be a problem, even though he’s not power hungry. And to protect his wealth he’d totally meddle in politics too (there’s probably more than one comic where that happens).
Well, he is at least often shown to have some amount of conscience left. Which is probably more than any real-life billionaire, at least the ones you’ve heard the names of.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why aren't people outraged about convenience pricing?
1·5 days agoWhite bread, but most bread sold in stores here isn’t white bread.
Granted I don’t really know if it’s full of preservatives. It does often have added sugar which is already shit (and a kind of preservative i guess).

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•The hierarchy of controls tells us that we should physically remove the hazard (Eliminate Cars). But, we choose the least effective option, protection (Helmets and bright colors)English
4·5 days agoI mean, wearing a helmet is still the smarter thing to do. I don’t, because I don’t go very fast anyway and wearing one feels quite uncomfortable, but it’s still always the safer choice.
That said, the actual benefit is vastly reduced if
- you just go at relaxed speeds
- car drivera are very aware of cyclists existing and as such drive more carefully
- good bicycle infrastructure means there are few points of contact with larger vehicles anyway
Since helmets only matter in severe accidents, if your odds of one are very low in the first place, they don’t change too much. But you can of course always get unlucky. Just like you can get unlucky with a helmet and ram yourself shoulder first into a tree and break your spine.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•YOU HAVE HURT THE FEE-FEES OF THE CHINESE PEOPLE!1!!!
11·7 days agoThe taiwan thing is literally just a social pretense to allow mainland china to “save face”. There are extremists that actually want the taiwanese government to rule all of mainland china, but that’s just not the popular opinion.
Well it’s true that saying taiwan is not china is a bit funny though, but in context anyone with basic readinf comprehension should know what is meant.

World News@lemmy.world•EU to give Frontex new powers to deport migrants from outside EuropeEnglish
7·11 days agoBecause that’s easy, and information on that definitely available. There would never be people in central africa making bank on smuggling people to europe promising that it’s their easy ticket to a better life…
/s if that wasn’t obvious
In theory sending the immigrants back before they get here should be better for everyone, but I’m always a bit doubtful about the execution. Ideally, I don’t think immigration should ever be illegal, but since that’s not gonna happen any time soon, this seems like a good thing at least at surface level. But I’m always sceptical with these things.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Discussion] What was the first Steam game you ever purchased?
3·11 days agoCod mw3, which is why i made my account. I think. Maybe it was for that time when l4d2 was free on christmas, whichever came first.
Edit: I checked with the link, mw3 came first. Though it doesn’t show up in the list because, being a teenager with not a lot of money, I got it from a keystore. The first one in the list is l4d2, which as mentioned was free, then the first one I actually bought through steam was audiosurf.

171·11 days agoYou can just buy your own domain and put the relevant dns records to forward it to any service that supports it (generally costs some money though). Then if the service enshittifies you just need to change the dns records. No need to go the full selfhosting route.
I use tuta for that, haven’t had issues so far and also don’t think I’ve heard anything bad.
I feel like the important part is just to be able to remember sounds well enough to do that. You just haven’t memorized them directly. The notes and even the entire scale are ultimately arbitrary, so matching the remembered pitches to notes is just some additional memorization.
