Maybe by definition, but in practice ICE looks like the military these days.

They aren’t at that stage yet where they need to worry about these sorts of problems.

I agree. I mean, SteamOS also exists now. Maybe valve could introduce some lockdown mode where you get no kernel access as the user for these types of games or something. I don’t know.
Either way, there has to be a way to solve this problem without kernel level anti cheat.

Interesting take.

Wolf, I always thought California had a level head

Of course but where’s the money at? Search and rescue, or military?

Year I view it kind of like firearms. You can say you have one for self defence but they’re used more for crime and war and hunting.

To be fair a console is just a locked down pc these days. There’s no reason technically why you couldn’t use a mouse and keyboard. The only reason is because they’re focused on couch play and lack of interest I think.

I agree but I have a big issue with this if it’s being the reason for what makes a company release on a console vs a pc

“We cannot be proud of working at [Boston Dynamics] when that work is being used by a government agency that brutalizes civilians, including some of our own colleagues … ,” the petition read.
But like, what did they think their dogs would be used for? Walks in the park? Of bit ICE, then what?
You could put one in the sink and… Nevermind, I got nothing.

For context I’m spreads doing this I run Plex and jellyfin in tandem, but many times I’d rather not host the content if it’s already on my streaming services. Good luck having a good experience with those on these types of setups. That’s my gripe.

I’m sure your experience using a remote to watch various streaming services and cable tv and pirated shows is all just totally simple and just works and the average person wouldn’t have an issue using it though, right? This is the crux of the issue.

Laughs in sitting in my EV.
Ya and it gets even worse on windows 11. I still pull up settings menus with windows+r and the command lmao. For example instead of 45 clicks to change an IP address, I just type ncpa.cpl in the run box and hit enter. Way faster.
Agree although I loved XP. 10 wasn’t terrible in the end, and 11 is a shit show
What if the companies doing this kernel level anti cheat refocused their efforts on a secure network stack for developers?
