That is just false. What an unjust claim.

Usually responsible, but never at fault.
Meaning while their actions (or inactions) may have lead to that situation, society should have prevented it from getting to that point.

Mainstream popularity.
If lemmy becomes big enough to have a user base that is a substantial slice of the population as a whole, corpo will try to ruin it as it ruined the internet as a whole.
So far the attention has mostly been a couple of content bots from news sites, and big socials spinning up their own instances only to get defenerated immediately. Once more effort is seen as profitable, that’s when there will be a real problem with bots, ads camouflaged as content, astroturfing, and everything else that follows.

To be fair, that was my reaction too that one time I had to work with it

Counterpoint: Can’t be dead in the water when the datacenters have used up all the water.

They need an actual job, yes. They don’t need to pretend to have a job by taking on debt to finance a rent-a-workplace predatory cover.

A bit of a tangent, but the chinese economy has gotten to the point where there’s an entire industry praying on those who “need” to pretend to work to save face, financed by taking up dept.
For a small fee you get access to an office complex where you can pretend to be at work so your friends and family won’t know you’re unemployed.

Nah, this is Lemmy, where we all know what this doofus would like to do. There are nobody here left to convince at this point.

Unless he floats face down in the reflection pool, that’s another one for the list. Stop reporting on his idiocy as if it’s newsworthy. Write what he does, not what he says!

With ever-decreasing RTG output, I’m thinking something along the lines of power management, perhaps involving rewriting critical code to be more efficient to make the probe last longer. Shut down the wrong system, or submit code with errors, and you brick it and lose. If you manage to squeeze enough from it, the game ends with it arriving at a planet in a different galaxy where you “meet the final boss” of one last ditch effort: send a picture back home. It’s OK if the probe dies after, as long as the picture makes it back to earth.

Agreed. What he does may be important, but he says nothing or value. I avoid so many BS-articles in my feed through this continuously expanding list:

UPDATE: just added “Trump floats” to the list.

I never quite understood the Trumpsterfires obsession with this guy. He effectively handed him the 2016 victory by announcing that FBI were investigating Hillary
I pirated GTA1, using a bicycle and 7 worn floppy disks. The downloaded version was a rar file spread over 17 files. Took me four round-trip, a couple of km each, to finally have a verified copy.

Noted, thanks.

24 mill USD equivalent:
400000 that I can use every year until I’m 100 (I probably won’t live that long, so my kids get whatever remains). It’s much more than I need, but I want a lot of leeway to maneuver whatever the financial markets burp up. Then sum should allow for positioning in a manner that makes sure the fund itself isn’t eaten up by inflation.
I first thought 12 mill, but realized that my anual “salary” would be of diminishing value due to inflation, so I doubled it to be on the safe side.
Only if I can control the implementation, which means open source and selfhosted uplink

Until he realized none of us want to emigrate to the US.
