I’ve been using connect since I switched from reddit to Lemmy some 5 odd years ago or so, and the experience has been quite underwhelming with regular bugs coming and going and I’m really kinda done with it. I’ll try voyager!

AI (can we just call it LLM please?) on itself isn’t a problem. Its a tool, the end. The problem is how its currently implemented, mostly by big tech who loves razing forrests to built giant data centers that slurp energy and water with no end, all built with so much ram and GPU power that the markets have died. And all of that so that people can mostly cheat on their job or exams, or produce child porn, and of course destroy millions of jobs (I’m in that category, jobless for well over 6 months, can’t find any job anymore)
Fuck all of that, and fuck big tech.
But that doesn’t mean that LLMs are fundamentally evil or something. Its software, its a tool, its basically an interactive distance measurementdatabase.
The problem is not what it is, its how it currently is being used

In the era of the model t, everything was hard to make and thus expensive. I can very much imagine that that crate it came in wasn’t cheap, so reuse only makes sense.
In today’s age everything is so dirt cheap that packaging is just automatic pretty garbage. I’m still waiting for laws to prohibit double, triple, or even quadruple packaging at least. That tube of tooth paste really doesn’t need a carton box around it, and the tube itself could be aluminum again so that the entire damned thing can be recycled, but yeah, plastics are cheaper so here we are.
