Main changes concerning streaming:
- Higher default resolution
- Improved colour clarity
- Improved head motion prediction
This update appears to break SteamVR on Linux. If you run into -203 error, switch back to the main branch
so far these updates for frame have made the index more wonky.
I feel like the video quality is going to be physically hampered by these lenses more than anything. But maybe someone will make a new headset running SteamOS with better hardware, so I guess it can’t hurt to improve the software…
This was all centered around sending a compressed video stream to the headset instead of just raw uncompressed video through a display cable.
AFAIK this didn’t change anything for traditional headsets. It only changed things for lossy compressed video transmitted to headsets. So there was a lot to improve.
I don’t understand what that has to do with what I said.
I was just pointing out that there was still a lot of room for improvement. Regardless of lenses and lens type in whatever steam link situation someone might be in. In other words, it’s not like the lenses were so bad that these improvements didn’t matter. I was speaking to your “more than anything” comment.
Well, I don’t agree. 🤷
