In the last day, I’ve found two accounts banned for threats of violence where I’ve hardly found any in the last 3 years. Is something in the air?

I worry that billionaires forgot that voting and the free market are agreements we came up with instead of showing up at their house with a guillotine. I honestly really hope none of this ever comes to violence but as this point they’re interfering so much with elections and the marke that they’re negating all the other options.

Threats of violence against users or threats of violence against billionaires? I see the latter regularly since I joined lemmy about couple years ago. I even have a “space billionaires” meme myself, if that counts as one. The former, I have never seen any.

Against the property of billionaires. A bit more “actually firebomb the Walgreens” than I’m used to.

I have been seeing that all the time for the last couple of years. Surveillance fetishist billionaires aren’t helping with that too. They just can’t seem to realise that the more they want to interfere in regular people’s lives the more they are hated.

I actively avoid all news and political communities so I see none. I also sort by new so most of the rule breaking happens after I hide the post.

This is actually something I find really nice about Lemmy. No matter what crazy takes get thrown around, you rarely see blunt personal attacks or threats of voilence…

Between users that is. You’ll definitely find some ready pitchforks when you look into political arguements, because pacifism is out of fashion I guess.

Closest I’ve seen recently is me getting a little heated over a certain thing coming into law and me saying how I would love to bash some skulls over that law since it essentially allows pedophilia to be legalized to keep “boys” ( trans girls ) out of girls sports by forcing minors to do genital inspections.

Oof. Yes. That would honestly be a pretty good reason to commit some violence.

Don’t touch kids, you disgusting fuckwits.

For legal purposes, I dont advocate violence, but like… it’s far better than far-right sites that are advocating murdering black people / jewish people / muslims / etc…

At least on “far-left” spaces, the targets are usually those on the top or individuals that were advocating bigotry in the first place.

Are you just now noticing this? Lmfao this aint new, Lemmy has been like this since its inception.

Also if you look at mainstream sites like say youtube comments, you get lots of people advocating death for “murderers and rapists”, and there are even support for mangione. Its not new lol.

No, not yet but I have the lovely encounter with one nutjob. Blocked the person and moved on.

Lemmy seems to slowly attract that kind of people, unfortunately. I think it is unavoidable.

It’s less than a week after one of the most consequential and unexpected midterm elections in US history. Some people are gonna be keyed up. Even if it was a normal midterm election people would be keyed up.

    Expected seasonal blip, basically.

Honestly I feel like its less but I block liberally. And I discuss it at times. I have not been on especially heavy the last few days though.
