Donald Trump is accused of raping a former Miss Switzerland in a report probing the president’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein released by House of Representatives Democrats this week.
Beatrice Keul, a retired model and beauty pageant contestant, told the House Judiciary Committee about an incident alleged to have taken place at New York’s Plaza Hotel in 1993. The report, released a week ahead of the midterm elections, also summarizes previously reported allegations from four other women against Trump.
The White House has strongly denied all of the reports’ claims, accusing “crazed” Democrats of “a desperate attempt to distract Americans” and insisting that the president has been “fully exonerated of anything related to Epstein.”
Keul previously claimed in October 2024 that Trump had sexually assaulted her at a beauty pageant staged at the Plaza Hotel, which Trump then owned.
“The president may have raped someone, but we need to double down on the made up rape threat that transgender people pose to women!”

Sure, could be that they do the right thing for the wrong reasons. But it’s still the right thing.
So much this. I hate when people are like “they don’t really believe that” in response to some public statement. The public statement itself is important! Half a politician’s job is public speaking. What they say in public matters just as much as what they do in private, and immediately attacking someone for doing the unobjectionably right thing is self defeating.

These kind of defeatist comments smell like all those Harris will start WW3 astro turf comments from the last election cycle.
So far as I can tell, the only meaningful push to hold any Epstein pedophile accountable has come from the Dems, with the one Republican who pushed for it being ousted by the GOP and Israel.
I wouldn’t immediately jump to doomerism conclusions when so far all the evidence is pointing you in the other direction. Just get off your ass and go vote for the Dems.

In my experience a very large amount of lemmy users support an idea that you should not vote for the democrats because afterwards complatency is too easy while more of Trump may unlock a civil war revolution.
I highly disagree with it and i dont think it will work out that way. I rather fight facist-lite then cant-wait-for-an-excuse-to-bomb-“woke”-cities-facism but i do understand the logic those “users” apply.
The real question is, are those users actually real people voicing their personal opinions or are they trolls/bots. Its not a good sign how increasingly vocal they are right in front of a US election and suddenly silent afterwards. Complacent much?
My suggestion is to vote lesser evil and then the moment they win a No-kings protest, continueing to grill the entire office to make it clear their polical win comes with 0 support from the people.

Well personally I find it disgusting to suggest that we shouldn’t hold “our team” accountable simply because the other team is worse.

As i said before. My suggestions is to make it clear that a vote =\= support by large anti fascist protestation the second they get elected.

I think people are just sick of Coting for the same thing just different shades. I mean have the demoxrates stood up to trump no they’ve rolled over many times the past two years. I do not expect them to do any better I’d they win the senate. I hope I’m wrong but we well see.
There’s a concerted effort on lemmy to discourage votes for democrats. I think it’s obvious why that is.
Next time if you want to be taken seriously, acknowledge this well known fact, also take a moment to proofread…

If they try to bury it they’re going to meet the same fate. And Dem voters will be far less forgiving.
That’s probably what they hope to do, but as Trump and co. have shown, you can’t quite put that genie back in the bottle that easily. They’ll definitely be looking for an opportunity to sweep it under the rug though.
