practical effects are so much cooler
I was only a few days ago old when I found out that the Borg Queen cybernetic torso insert from First Contact was a practical effect.

And it’s a wonder that man can eat at all
When plates are big that should be small
Who can tell what magic spells they do to make them for us?
This is so old it was when mtv existed and was mostly music videos.
And you could learn something by watching discovery 😭
Before Ancient aliens on history
When there was still Cartoon Network and The Sci-Fi Channel
discovery
I mean, it’s absolutely Daft Punk’s best album, but I’m not sure it’ll teach you anything (other than how to boogie)
“I don’t want to hang out with him! He’s not ticklish anywhere!”

I remember the first few times I saw the video, it was pretty cool, just moving walls and that’s it
It’s an obvious principle but clearly lots of work. Those are some big and far moving walls, which are also strong enough to almost not bend being touched and pushing furniture around, and so few cuts, and the set getting soaked with fake blood… No wonder they didn’t shoot another take when he accidentally used a slightly different-color sweater for the last part
The furnature in the room never gets knocked over in the video though.
The couch bumps up against the wall and gets pushed across the floor just like the guy and table, but the couch is more stable.
Had to go and check and yes. You are absolutely right.
But… But the furniture isn’t what was moving…
It doesn’t matter how the person and table collide with the wall, the collision is gonna cause it and the person to fall.
It’s been a while since I’ve watched the music video but I don’t recall any collisions. Guess I’ve gotta watch it again now
It’s a great video even after finding out how it was made! Kinda like rewatching The 6th Sense.
I’ve actually never seen The 6th Sense. I’ve always actually heard that knowing the spoiler made it lame so I just keep skipping it.
I disagree. Seeing it without the spoilers and then again after lets the hints about the ending be more apparent.
It was pretty novel at the time and enough movies have taken the same approach that I think it would be hard to watch it blind and not catch all the hints, much less if you know the outcome. There are better movies since then that pull off the same twist, it mainly comes up because it was one of the earliest well known movies that did it.
I can see that. Maybe I’ll add it back to my to watch list
The furniture was moving any time that it didn’t appear to be, but the singer did.
Fun fact: they moved the walls around to create the effect
It would be a lot easier to make if he just moved like that.
