Should motorbikes and cars share lanes? How to deal with left turns (the dangerous ones) in junctions? Should motorbikes and bikes have to do two-step left turn?

two-step left turn illustration

There’s an idea that we should categorize vehicles as human-poweres or not. Is this a good idea? How about paddle-assist-only ebikes?

When there’s not enough space for lanes, which type of vehicle get compromised?

Just look at the Netherlands, they’ve been doing this for 6 decades now and they’ve answered pretty much most of your answers

What if we put islands in the middle of the intersection and turned it into a roundabout. Lanes would be narrow so cars would have to slow down, and it eliminates the left turn problem and keeps bicycles from having to stop.

Personally I’m pro “move the motor vehicles out of the center.” Make cars loop around instead of cutting through. That way you avoid situations where people are on bikes are interacting with cars.

As for the lights, in the Netherlands, when you get a green light, you go. It was surprising to me in other countries you awkwardly have to wait in the middle for oncoming traffic to pass first, who somehow get a green light at the same time.

And if you can’t squeeze in a road next to sidewalks and bike lines, maybe make it a one-way street instead?

Micromobility will never be the norm. So it’s not a thing to be concerned about.

What a dumb and ignorant comment. Micromobility already is the norm in many places around the world. So yes, the problem should be discussed and solutions found. Thankfully many places already have solutions.

It isn’t THE NORM. It’s the exception to THE NORM. Learn the difference between these two things.

? In my neighborhood there are more bikes than cars, and in other cities like Montpellier, cars aren’t even allowed to enter. Maybe you should learn that not every place is just like where you live.

            NYC. Detroit, Chicago, LA, Boston….

These places would like you to know that they also exist. I’m sure your little neighborhood’s cute, but the aforementioned will eat it alive without gaining a pound.

            You’re not removing cars.

Why are you being so absurdly condescending? At least learn to spell “without gaining a pound” first.

And also, I live in Montréal, which is larger than half of those cities, but your point would be stupid regardles, beacuse, since you brought up NYC, only a quarter of new yorkers commute by car, a percentage which has been steadily dropping, because NYC is removing cars.

I can’t tell if you’re joking or not. You literally listed cities that have massive transportation systems and an absolute fuckton of micromobility. You’re literally spewing shit out your ass and acting like it’s fact.

It isn’t the norm. It’s the exception to the norm. Learn the difference between these two things.

That’s not what that means. Holy shit you must be trolling or Russian. Get the fuck outta here.

I mentioned those cities because in them- cars are THE NORM, kid. And they will be- THE NORM, for a long- LONG fucking time. Just because they happen to have alternatives, doesn’t mean those alternatives are- wait for it….

                THE NORM-

Which is what this entire fucking conversation is about.

They literally aren’t haha. You didn’t even bother to look at the statistics you literally just made shit up. NYC only has like 20% car usage.

You talk a lot of shit for someone that doesn’t seem to know anything about transportation.
