The 30-second spot, entitled “Republicans In Your Bathroom,” targets the GOP over its fixation on restricting trans people’s access to restrooms and locker rooms. The ad, which The Hill reports is part of a larger buy worth over $1 million per The Hill, begins with a young girl entering a bathroom and to her horror, encountering an older white-haired man sitting in the stall waiting for her. He greets her with a short hello. Immediately, the girl presses the man for answers, “What are you doing? Who are you?”

“I’m your Republican congressman. Now that we’re in charge, I’m checking to make sure that there’s no trans people in the wrong bathroom,” he says.

Her response: “Bathrooms are private. Don’t you have anything better to do?”

“I won the last election, and this is my priority,” he says, “Now let’s make sure you’re really a girl,” ending with an ominous smirk.

“But but but! If GOP can’t distract you with sexuality and religion, how will they keep critics away from unchecked O&G drilling?”

Ohh don’t worry, the Dems will allow drilling too. Is the non-corporate issues they’ll roll back to reasonable non-religious values.

More that renewable donors promote Democrats, and Democrats are receptive to these donors in a way Republicans are not

But pop down to Texas, the national leader in Solar and Wind power. Even that doesn’t hold up against close inspection

Entirely too much money in renewable and battery tech for either party to ignore

That’s it, all we need to do is go past that paper thin veneer that paints the gop as good and decent people and display them for the ghoulish monsters that they really are.

I wouldn’t even say this is exaggerated in the slightest. They’re vile.

I’d happily welcome one into the restroom! I’m not trans but I AM lactose intolerant. And I feel the need. The need…for CHEESE.

Those on Lemmy skew toward tech savvy, so a sampling of people from here is like standing outside a trump rally and asking who the best president was.

Does anyone watch ads? I haven’t seen one in years

      Some demographics watch them.

Other demographics (which have a strong overlap with people who know Lemmy exists) don’t watch (or even see) most types of advertising.

… because it’s based in reality.

tf is actually wrong with Republicans? Obsessed with the weirdest stuff, into hurting others and suffering, it’s basically the worst possible people you could elect to run a government.

It’s not always because they believe the bible, but it is often because they believe the bible. It describes a rapey abuser who can and will torture you to death if you don’t blindly obey him, and they call that “love”. They do completely backwards, wrong, harmful things while genuinely believing they are in the right.

You know that vague “mandate” they keep talking about? Spoilers, it’s from god. That divine being which we have no actual evidence for, no reason to believe its existence, no way of contacting it to verify what it wants. It gives them a blank check to do whatever they want regardless of how many people they hurt.

But it’s not that they believe in the bible either. It’s claiming to adhere to a religion mostly based on the New Testament but remembering that one creepy passage from the Old Testament.

You can’t just copy-paste a few regressive thoughts from the entire compendium and say the “the bible says ….”. That’s kind of missing the point

But we can’t ignore them, either. That would be cherry-picking, which is a necessary aspect of “believing” the bible because it contradicts itself.

God never once condemns slavery, even when he’s incarnated as Jesus. The new testament has a handful of pretty lines that fall apart when you remember the abusive foundation of “obey me or die.”

It’s possible to read the entire history of western colonialism and rise of capitalism as parallel to the spread and growth of Christianity around the globe. The two have been inextricably entangled for centuries

The colonizers and the religious leaders had difgerent but overlapping interests and used each other to help push their own agenda.
