This got removed from politics because “Video links are not allowed” apparently? Pretty weird considering that most politicians say stuff on video nowadays and not really writing articles anymore since the invention of the radio pretty much lol. Hope it’s a better fit here, this is the kind of stuff people should be aware of.

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet.

Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well.

Turek currently has a narrow lead against republican Ashley Hinton. Both are running heavily on painting themselves as independent of their parties.

The number of people suddenly pretending to care about women’s sports is incredible. The number of people who don’t realise that placing these types of requirements would necessitate a system for checking and verifying that would be… horrifying, is incredible.

I don’t even get why democrats are releasing anti-trans ads (I mean, I do, and it’s because all the political advisors say it’s a divisive issue despite having no evidence of that). Like, even if they don’t care about trans rights at all, they can just make ads that don’t mention it. It can only hurt them for taking a diet republican side on an issue because it can alienate their more left voters. If AIPAC can be smart enough to promote a progressive and split the progressive vote in a primary, why can’t democrats be smart enough to realize that anti-trans ads can only hurt them?

How is this still a thing in the Dem party? Instead of joining the bullies, we should be embarrassing the asshole dems who think Trans people are anything other than people trying to exist just like we are. Am old enough to remember when dems joined the same politicized bullshit against gay people in the 80s, and then satanic panic in the 90s. Can we fucking grow up and learn something for once??

Because it was still the view of many of the people who would have called themselves Republicans in say 2010 but realized Trump wasn’t good for the country or left the party for other reasons. They didn’t just disappear, they joined the only other viable party and helped to shift it further right. Like when Desantis won Florida Governor in 2022, he won against then Democrat candidate Charlie Christ, whom was the Republican governor of Florida from 2007-2011. Christ didn’t change all of his views, his views were suddenly just left of MAGA, but still right of where Democrats were in 2006

Or just don’t vote for a fucking conservative. “Vote blue no matter who” is how we got dems like this on the ballot. If the left signals to them that they have our vote no matter what their policies are, then their best strategy for getting elected is to appeal to the right.

No, we got dems like this on on the ballot by people not voting in the primaries. If people would get off their asses and participate and vote in the primaries, we could have good candidates. Since it’s too late to change that, though, the only choice now is to vote for the lesser evil. Anything else means letting the greater evil win by default.

Now is not the time for a moral stand. Now is the time to be pragmatic. Don’t vote for what is effectively a Nazi just because the other candidate isn’t perfect.

Maybe you should just accept that this candidate has lost the trans vote and move on instead of demanding trans people and their allies support their demise. It’s not trans people’s fault this candidate is anti-trans. Don’t go after trans folks just because their voting decisions aren’t “perfect”. When a candidate says he is anti-trans, it seems absurd to castigate trans allies for believing him.

Sure, it’s too late to get a different Dem candidate, but that just makes it more important that the Dem candidate doesn’t make dumbass decisions to needlessly throw away voters for zero benefit. It seems like a bad use of your time to go after the many people in the voter base this candidate is alienating. It would be more efficient to rebuke this single candidate and demand he apologize.

I will not vote for the promise of “we’ll save democracy but also liquidate trans people.” If you’re not willing to stand up for minorities, then we can all go to hell together.

Are you even from Iowa? Either way, you are screwed. If you don’t see the benefit of voting for the lesser evil, you do you, but all that does is make when you do have to choose the lesser evil be in even more dire circumstances.

I’d rather choose a ban on federal funds being gaslit as “liquidating trans people”, which is no different to Republican candidate Ashley Hinson’s position, to go through the majority least likely to allow it to go through, Democrats. Meanwhile, a MAGA dominated senate has allowed actual liquidation of trans people from serving in places like the military and other federal agencies.

A ban of federal funding for gender affirming health care, i.e. denying health care to a marginalised group of people who can’t otherwise access it, is quite literally a genocidal act in a way that a ban on serving in the military doesn’t even come close to.

It’s actually not, and that’s crazy talk. People still being able to perform gender affirming health care on their own dime is much more ideal than being liquidated from even being part of major aspects of society.

You mean their own dime that they don’t have, hence qualifying for federal assistance?

Buying HRT of the internet and self-medicating without medical supervision (which does have serious risks) is relatively affordable, and the fact that it isn’t outright banned (yet) is something, but without insurance that covers it, medically supervised HRT is out of reach of many, and any kind of surgery is out of reach of the vast majority. Need I remind you that every serious medical association considers these things to be essential health care?

The denial of specifically this health care, which is essential to trans people, is a deliberate infliction of living conditions calculated to bring about the destruction of trans people who have no other means, as a group.

The US has been gearing up for a trans genocide (per the The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention) for a long time, and you are proving your willingness to be a collaborator in it.

Don’t lie to yourself. What the candidate is advocating for will result in dead Trans people. With 100% certainty. If you are okay with dead Trans people as long as it furthers your aims then be honest at least.

But telling Trans people they have to vote for someone who wants them to die is simply evil.

As far as I know, there was no indication that this dude is a massive transphobe prior to the primaries. This needs to lose him votes. I’m not encouraging anyone to vote for what is effectively a nazi, I’m encouraging people to vote for someone who isn’t a transphobe.

I am so sick and fucking tired of you people acting like we want perfection. I’m not saying not to vote for him because he isn’t perfect, I’m saying not to vote for him because he wants to harm trans people. The DNC supports candidates like this because they appeal to the right, and that’s the only demographic they need to earn votes from. Make them earn your vote.

This is where these naive fools fail. They have no answer to this question. They wish they lived in some magical world where the perfect candidate was on the ballot for them to vote for.

Instead, the choice is coming down to D or R. The time for a better Democrat candidate was in the primaries. Come general election time, there’s not much of a choice left.

The answer is to not select either candidate for that position. But I expect to hear screeching over that because “how dare you send a message to politicians, they’ll kill more than just you now!”

Erm actually the best way to improve society is to put absolutely no pressure on democrats at all. You’re basically voting for a transphobe to win if you don’t vote for this transphobe

          /s.

The way things are going, in 2040, we’re gonna have a democrat on the ballot who wants to jail trans people, and a republican who wants to execute them, and these liberals will argue earnestly in favor of the former. The only way to avoid that eventuality is to signal to the democratic party that trans rights are non-negotiable, and we cannot do that as long as we’re voting blue no matter who.

If you have a choice between a transphoboc zionist and a transphoboc zionist, vote third party. Make the effort to get out and vote, and make the effort to vote third party.

You do understand that one vote means it’s a binary choice. That’s why we have two parties. Like, voting third party is like not voting at all.

We need a different way of voting that will reflect better its constituents.

You do understand that voting for the person you want is a vote for the person you want and not a nonvote, right?

Additionally, where is the line? The Democrat wants to do the trans genocide just as much as the Republican candidate. Your vote is also a message to both mainstream parties. Voting for the Democrat will signal to the dnc that being anti-trans will break the losing streak. Voting for the Republican will do the same, because the dnc are always chasing the non-existent “centrist Republicans”.

            Let’s do a tally.

            • Democrat: anti-trans
            • Republican: anti-trans

By voting and not selecting either candidate for this race, it sends a crystal clear message to the Democratic party that anti-trans campaigns are a losing strategy; they already know that, but the dnc is dense as fuck and needs to see it again after 2020 and 2024. Voting for the Democrat in this race is rubber stamping anti-trans stances, they’ll move right again

You forgot Republicans is anti a lot more, and when they get more votes and win, more people suffer and the message to dems is they aren’t doing enough shitty things.

Are you okay with the republican cuts to Medicare, ACA, aid support around the world which has resulted in hundreds of thousands of kid deaths?

Because by not voting against them, you are showing you don’t care enough to stop them.

Nah, fuck that bullshit. I’m trans. If you don’t care enough about the lives of and my people to vote against transphobes, I don’t really care what happens to the rest of the country at that point. If the entire society wants to go bigot, well then you all can go straight to hell. Let democracy fall. You clearly don’t deserve it.

So what I’m hearing is that you have no solution to the reality of the choices here. It’s either D, R, 3rd party, or not voting. Play out each of those voting scenarios for me. How does it impact the national layout of Congress?

Funny claiming the rights are non negotiable yet you are giving up far more by allowing a republican to win instead.

You might be able to change his mind about trans rights.

You 100% will not change the republicans and they want even more people to lose their rights and care even less about their lives.

I’m loving in the real world where voting has major consequences and trying to deal with reducing the amount of hatred and saving lives. Not voting against republicans will cost countless more lives to be lost.

Explain how your non vote is going to save their lives? You are okay with it and more by not voting and getting someone even worse in office.

At least voting them in maybe their fellow dems can change their mind. Getting 4 more years of a republican means 4 more years of anti rights and deaths.

Read carefully. I didn’t say “don’t vote at all”. I said “don’t vote for this seat”. They will have statistics for the ballots which didn’t vote for the Senate race but voted for other government positions.

What message are you trying to send, though? The only information they get from your non-vote is that the other guy wins, and he is full-on anti-trans. The message, from their vantage point, is “be more anti-trans because that is what wins.”

They see the actual number of votes. If voter turnout is on average for the republican candidate but lower than average for the democratic candidate, and accounting for any voter suppression, the DNC would be able to see that their messaging didn’t resonate.

The guy in this ad is literally advocating for policy that will result in the deaths of trans people. Trans people who suddenly lose access to their medications and are not able to go elsewhere to get them are not just going to be fine. This is real measurable direct harm right now. This is a part of trans genocide. Those actions are absolutely intended to harm transgender people in an effort to erase us.

Is there a line for you? Where is that line? Do you think that if he wins he will suddenly stop being anti trans? Do you not think that him winning will also signal to all other democratic candidates running that advocating for trans genocide is actually a great idea and will win them elections?

Yes it does, eventually. Y’all have been having the same argument for decades, but if you had voted third party decades ago instead of just lying down and accepting the ‘lesser evil’ then things would be different and wouldn’t have shifted so far right. You all have been playing right into the corpos hands forever by constantly punching left as everythibg shifts right. This cycle will carry on perpetually until enough people stop throwing away the limited power they have, which is the choice to not choose ANY shitty option.

They get the message of statistics from the number of people who voted and left the spot blank. Those ballots will also have data on the people that they did vote for.
